The route starts in <strong>Ascoli Piceno<\/strong> and it passes through some villages of the Piceno territory to discover the traces of this refined style..<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>MEETING POINT:\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><em>Arringo Square or De Gasperi Street<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>DURATION: <\/em><\/strong><em>6<\/em><em>\u00a0hours, full day \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>TRANSPORT:\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><em>walking route, bus or car for long travelling<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Extra costs could be expected to enter into some sites<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>NOTES: The route could be changed according yours demand<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>In <strong>Ascoli Piceno<\/strong> we are visiting the historical<strong> Caff\u00e8 Meletti<\/strong>, <strong>one of the 150 historical caff\u00e8 in Italy<\/strong> which maintains its original<strong> Liberty style.<\/strong> The Post Office was transformed in an elegant Caff\u00e8 by the Ascolan industrialist <strong>Silvio Meletti<\/strong>: he obtained a recipe for the distillation of a liqueur based on anise. Meletti\u00a0Anisette is a <strong>sweet liqueur<\/strong> with an anise base, made from the Aniseed plant that grows on the hillside near <strong>Castignano.<\/strong> Caff\u00e8 Meletti was inaugurated at \u00a0the beginning of the XX century and still today it conserves its beautiful forniture: the internal decorations were realized by the most famous decorators of that period and the Caff\u00e8 Meletti was transformed into a <strong>movie set\u00a0<\/strong>: <strong>Francesco Maselli<\/strong> and <strong>Pietro Germi<\/strong> filmed numerous scenes here. Philip Palace<\/strong>, seat of the Province of Ascoli Piceno, was embellished by Liberty decorations by the great artist <strong>Adolfo De Carolis<\/strong>; he illustrated <strong>Pascoli<\/strong> and <strong>D&#8217;annunzio<\/strong>&#8216;s books. He realized the adornment in the<strong> Banquet<\/strong> <strong>Hall<\/strong> of the Prefect&#8217;s apartment. He realized <strong>mythological scenes<\/strong> and the <strong>Piceno allegory<\/strong>: in this composition refined and elegant Liberty elements is merged with others elements inspired to <strong>Michelangelo&#8217;s paintings.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1158\" style=\"width: 267px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/localhost\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/download.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1158\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1158 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/localhost\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/download.jpg\" alt=\"download\" width=\"257\" height=\"196\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1158\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mussini, The church of S. Serafino from Montegranaro<\/p><\/div>\n<p><em>In Ascoli Piceno the route is concluded with the <strong>Cappuccini Church<\/strong> and its internal decoration made by the artist <strong>Augusto Mussini<\/strong>. The church is located in the medieval quarter of Borgo Solest\u00e0; this church conserves the relics of the <strong>Franciscan S. Seraphino from Montegranaro.<\/strong> Augusto Mussini became a monk, <strong>Paolo from Ascoli<\/strong>, and he realized the frescoes with the <strong>Stories of S. Seraphino<\/strong> in <strong>1904<\/strong>. He make used friends, monks and relatives as models; in these Stories you can find realistic elements and Liberty decorations.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><i>We are going to\u00a0<strong>Grottammare<\/strong>; <strong>Pope Sisto V<\/strong> was born here. Grottammare was a famous holiday destination at the beginning of the XX century. Many rich families ordered the construction of <strong>villas<\/strong> here and their architects diffused Liberty elements on the <strong>Adriatic coast.<\/strong><\/i><\/p>\n<p><em>In Grottammare the Liberty style is characterized by simple expressive forms and particular elements such as the <strong>turret<\/strong> (it derives from the <strong>alpine architecture<\/strong>), frescoes and ceramics with floral decorations. These villas are located in <strong>Cristoforo Colombo Street<\/strong>: strolling along this street you can admire <strong>Mandolesi Villa<\/strong>, <strong>Ida Villa<\/strong>, <strong>Franceschini Villa<\/strong>, <strong>Hotel Moderno<\/strong>, <strong>Marucchi Villa<\/strong>. The most famous villa in Grottammare is <strong>Matricardi-Cola Villa<\/strong>: it was built in <strong>1913<\/strong> by the Ascolan industrialist<strong> Giuseppe<\/strong> <strong>Matricardi<\/strong>; the villa is decorated by<strong> ceramics<\/strong> from Matricardi&#8217;s factory: they were decorated by <strong>Polci<\/strong> and <strong>Castelli<\/strong> artists.
