The route is dedicated to the two medieval villages along the Adriatic coast: Grottammare <\/b>and Cupra Marittima<\/b><\/em><\/p>\n

The route starts in<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>S. Pio V Square<\/em><\/strong>; it was built by<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>Pope Pio IX<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>into an urbanistic extension plane. We are visiting the<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>Church of S. Pio V<\/em><\/strong>: on the principal portal some important events of the story of Grottammare are represented. Still today a particular event is remembered in a local celebration.. in the church a precious organ is conserved. It was played by an important musician: Grottammare was an important<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>holiday destination<\/em><\/strong>, frequented by important personalities.<\/em><\/p>\n

We are visiting the ancient medieval part of Grottammare,<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>“the old village”<\/em><\/strong>; along the street you can see<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>Laureati House<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>and<\/em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>Azzolino House<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>frequented by the<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>King Vittorio Emanuele II<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>and the<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>Queen Cristina of<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>Sweden<\/em><\/strong>: in the gardens of these houses you can admire<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>orange trees<\/em><\/strong>, the symbol of Grottammare<\/em><\/p>\n

The Fountain and the Church of S. Pio V, Grottammare.<\/p><\/div>\n

We are visiting the\u00a0Church of S. Agostino<\/strong>\u00a0with a clipped belfry. In this church you can admire a beautiful way of the cross realized by one of the most important contemporary artists in Grottammare. Strolling along the village you can see a beautiful\u00a0sea view<\/strong>\u00a0with numerous houses in\u00a0Liberty style<\/strong>; these houses were built by the middle class who spent her holidays in Grottammare at the beginning of the XX century.\u00a0Peretti Square<\/strong>\u00a0is dedicated to the most important person in Grottammare,\u00a0Felice Peretti<\/strong>,\u00a0Pope Sisto V<\/strong>; we are seeing the fortified tower of the XVI century and the\u00a0Church of S. Lucy<\/strong>: Pope Sisto V ordered the construction of this church<\/em><\/p>\n

Strolling along\u00a0suggest and narrow medieval streets<\/strong>\u00a0we are visiting the highest point of the village where the traces of the ancient medieval castle are conserved; the castle was built during the\u00a0XI century<\/strong>\u00a0and it is located in a park which is considered among the\u00a0natural beauties<\/strong>\u00a0of Grottammare. This park is a\u00a0protected zone<\/strong>\u00a0for the quality of its animal and arboreal species. This place is considered a\u00a0literary park<\/strong>\u00a0and important poets, such as\u00a0D’Annunzio<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Grazia Deledda<\/strong>, found the inspiration of their poems here<\/em><\/p>\n
